In Memoriam

Honoring Our Cloud of Witnesses

The Free Methodist Church in Southern California stands on the shoulders of faithful servants who dedicated their lives to building God’s kingdom in our region. This memorial section honors those who have completed their earthly journey and entered the presence of the Lord during the past conference year.

Don Bowers

Donald Bowers was born in South Lyon, Michigan. He was radically saved by God’s Grace at Azusa College in California. It was there he met the love of his life, Rosie, whom he married in 1959.

Don's journey of service began with his first pastoral role in 1960 at Oro Grande Community Church, where he and Rosie—along with their growing family—began a life devoted to ministry. Together, they went on to serve communities and churches across California, touching lives at Azusa Pacific College, Granada Hills, Village Covenant, Diamond Bar, Orange County, Los Angeles and Rancho Cucamonga.

A man of deep compassion and unwavering faith, Don left a lasting impact on the churches he shepherded. His clever wit and perfectly timed one-liners reflected a joyful resilient heart.

Don’s loyal partnership with Rosie, his beloved wife of 65½ years, was the cornerstone of a life rich in love and service. His legacy is carried on by his children, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a vast extended family formed through the churches he pastored. Sadly, Rosie passed away this past January.

Donald Bowers lived a life led by the love of Jesus—marked by humble leadership, generous service, and deep love for people. His memory will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
